Our RV Adventure at Airport Park: Lake Waco’s Hidden Gem

This Corps of Engineers park sits on the northeastern shore of Lake Waco, offering campsites that strike that perfect balance between accessibility and seclusion. The campground features about 40 sites spread across a wooded peninsula, most with full hook ups (water, electric, and sewer) along with some water’s edge primitive spots, and a section with several cabins.

Our site had unobstructed views of the water from our dining window and awning area. The pad itself was level and paved, with a fire ring, picnic table, and enough room to set up our outdoor living space without feeling cramped. The sites are thoughtfully spaced, giving you enough distance from neighbors to maintain privacy while still fostering that communal campground atmosphere.

The amenities at Airport Park are straightforward but well-maintained. Clean restrooms with hot showers (always a plus after a day of activities), a dump station for RVers, and potable water stations throughout the grounds. What really stands out is the lake access – a boat ramp within the park makes it easy to get on the water.

Despite being just minutes from downtown Waco, Airport Park feels remarkably removed from city life. The night skies were dark enough for serious stargazing, and the only ambient noise was the occasional distant airplane (fitting, given the park’s name and proximity to the regional airport) and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. For RVers seeking that sweet spot between nature and convenience, Airport Park delivers – you’re surrounded by lakeside beauty yet just a short drive from Waco’s restaurants, the famous Magnolia Market, and other attractions.
